A Simple Guide For Purchasing Jewelry Online

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Many people find buying on the internet quick, easy, and convenient. You don’t have to drive to the mall, park your car, or stand in line.  You are in the comfort of your own home or office with millions of stores at your fingertips.  Now you maybe thinking with online shopping, you can’t physically inspect the product before you buy.  The solution to this is simple. Make sure the company you do business has the customer’s best interest.   At Stacie’s Gifts we don’t just sell fine jewelry at good deals, we also offer advice on how to purchase it. Here are five things you need to know when purchasing jewelry online.

The Merchant’s Reputation

The most reputable online jewelers have links on their sites with customer ratings and reviews.  It will either be published on the front page or linked to a separate page on the website.  Merchant reviews can also show up on other websites such as shopwiki.com and resellerratings.com.   These sites serve primarily as a forum for product and website reviews.

Beware of unverifiable testimonials.  This includes reviews that don’t link back to the actual source of review.  If there are no reviews published or linked to the website, the search engines may have additional information.  If you type in the website address in Google or any of the major search engines, you will find a wealth of information on that site.  If large numbers of consumers have had good or bad experiences with a merchant, the odds are it published somewhere online.

Merchant-Customer Communication

The best way to converse with an online merchant is through email.  More often than not, this is found on the “Customer Service” page.  Some websites have a “Contact Us” link at the header or footer of the page.  Be sure there is an actual email address published somewhere on the site.  Avoid contact links with pop-up windows that prompt you to type in a message unless you can verify the destination. If you have to communicate with an online merchant by email, the turn around time for a response should be within 24 business hours.  If you are shopping around, send an email to the merchant about any of their promotions or products.  Check to see how long it takes for them to respond, and the content of their response.

Website’s Return Policy

So you receive your jewelry, and you are not satisfied with the purchase.  What do you do?  The answer should be clearly outlined in the store’s return policy.  Use caution when doing business with online merchants that have vague or no return policy.  Also beware of a return policy that reads like a legal contract, or is not easily accessible. This information should be easy to find, and written to be understood by the average consumer.  At a minimum, it should include the time frame in which the item can be returned, who is responsible for the shipping costs, a return mailing address, applicable restocking fees, and an approximate time frame on the refund.  To avoid surprises, you should read the policy prior to the purchase.

Clear Product Descriptions

Clear and detailed product descriptions are important.  It should contain details such as ring size, necklace length,  material composition (i.e. sterling silver, gold, titanium), and other relevant dimensions.   When shopping for gold or silver, the product description should clearly indicate the number of karats or silver content percentage.  If you have any questions, contact the merchant prior to the purchase.

Once your jewelry arrives, inspect it thoroughly.  If your purchase includes sterling silver or gold, there should be a small stamp visible on the item.  Sterling silver jewelry will have the “925″  generally located on the bracelet clasp, the inside band of a ring, or on the post of an earring.  Gold will bare a small stamp indicating the number of karats (i.e. 14k) in the same general locations as sterling silver stamps.

Trust Your Instincts

Once you have selected your item(s) and proceeded to checkout, take note on how you feel about the transaction.  If you are comfortable, chances are the transaction will flow smoothly.  However, if your stomach is turning somersaults, something is triggering this feeling.  Consider postponing the purchase, or shopping at a website where you feel more at ease.

Scrap Gold Prices Have Never Been Higher

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Over the past few months scrap gold prices have soared. They have never been higher. Like most people I have seen the advertisements on the television for all those companies offering to buy scrap gold. I actually tried a few of them. The best company I have found that pays the highest scrap gold prices is Money4Gold.

Unlike some people who have been selling their gold because they are out of work or need the money, I decided to sell my gold because the prices are the highest they have ever been. I have lots of broken gold jewellery that I will never have repaired. Some of it probably cannot be repaired anyway.

I do not have enough gold to make it worth keeping. I mean I will never become a gold dealer. Keeping the old gold is doing me no good. Right now while interest rates are lower than they have been in years scrap gold prices are at the highest level ever.

The local pawn brokers and gold buyers are too small to offer really great prices. I was looking for the best scrap gold prices, not prices that would make the pawn broker rich. I found Money4Gold. They offer the best scrap gold prices of any company I found. They have the best reputation for fair pricing and fast service. I decided to give them a try.

Money4Gold gave me the best scrap gold prices I could get anywhere. The process is so easy that anyone can do it. You simply put your old scrap gold, including broken gold necklaces, bracelets and earrings, into the envelope they send and mail it back to them. The process could not have been easier.

Within a week I had received money for my unwanted broken jewellery. I can honestly say that I got the best scrap gold prices online or in the brick and mortar world. Money4Gold paid the highest prices and paid quickly.

I did not need the money when I decided to look for the best scrap gold prices and the best scrap gold company. I decided to take advantage of the high price of gold. Now that I have the cash when interest rates start to rise again I will have cash to put into a savings account or a CD.

Just because times are tough does not mean that even you and I cannot take advantage of the situation. With savings accounts paying less than 1% it is time to look for the best scrap gold prices. Sell your scrap gold while the price of gold is the highest it has ever been. Get the cash you will need to invest when interest rates start going back up. Money4Gold offers the best scrap gold prices available.

Selecting An Affordable Wedding Ring Metal

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Couples will be thrilled to know that great advances have been made recently in working with other appropriate metals for wedding rings. Brides and grooms now have a much wider variety in wedding ring metals, and most will  be pleased to hear that all of these metals are less expensive than platinum, and many of them are also cheaper than gold. Before you start thinking flimsy, or it will turn green, you may like to know that all of these contemporary wedding ring metals are also hypo-allergenic and hard wearing.  The metals we are going to talk about today are titanium, palladium, and tungsten carbide. Which one of these metals is going to meet your wedding ring requirements?

Titanium is a very strong and light metal. Titanium wedding rings are available in colors ranging from blacks and grays to many other tints such as blues and greens. Titanium wedding rings can be set with diamonds or stones.

Palladium
is from the same family of metals as platinum, has a very similar appearance, and is naturally shiny. Palladium wedding rings, like platinum, never need to be plated. Palladium weighs less than platinum, making for a lighter weight wedding ring. From a costing perspective, palladium is roughly 25% the cost of platinum, coming in at about the same as 9K white gold, but never needing the rhodium re-plating that white gold needs.

Tungsten carbide wedding rings are made from one of the hardest metals in the world. These rings have a reputation for being virtually indestructible, being 10 times harder than a gold wedding ring, and 4 times the strength of platinum and titanium. Tungsten wedding rings will weigh about the same as a platinum wedding ring. Due to the strength of the metal, tungsten wedding rings cannot be resized or altered once they have been made. Generally tungsten wedding rings are not set with stones, as the hardness of the metal makes it difficult. However, tungsten can be lasered with designs, and made with other metals inlaid. Tungsten wedding rings come in a range of colors from white to metallic shiny grays through to dark grays and blacks.

Mixing your metals
. All of these metals can be incorporated into multi-color or multi-metal wedding rings. Palladium can be used to create the same visual effect of platinum in a wedding ring. Yellow and rose gold can be inlaid with tungsten, titanium, and palladium.

Price Differences: Palladium is the most expensive of the 3 metals, being roughly one quarter the cost of platinum, followed by titanium and tungsten in affordability.

Selling Your Scrap Gold

Friday, August 28th, 2009

With today’s economy a lot of people are trying to find ways to save money. A good way to bring in extra income is by getting rid of unwanted items in your house. Did you know that you can sell unwanted and broken gold jewellery for scrap gold? There are thousands of business and websites that offer money for scrap gold .But many businesses such as pawn shops and jewellery stores resell scrap gold to refineries and you lose part of the profit.

Trying to decide on a company that is reputable and someone who will give you the going rate for your scrap gold can be overwhelming. Probably one of the best ways in determining the credibility of a company would be to look for guarantees. With a guarantee you would be assured to get the full value for your scrap gold.

Another thing to look for in a company would be their reputation and testimonials. Does the company have any licenses? How long has the company been in business? It is easier to trust a company if they have been in business for a while. Is the company on any committees? If the company is affiliated with a committee that are familiar with it will put your mind at ease.

Does the company have a contact number incase you have any questions? Often, especially when you are selling online, companies do not have a contact telephone number. It is very frustrating when you do not have a way to contact a company when you have any questions. It is always a relief to know that you can call a company anytime with concerns that you may have about your scrap gold.

Another consideration to keep in mind is the type of shipping available when you are sending your unwanted items. Does the company have insured mail and offer free shipment for your scrap gold? Is there a confirmation sent by the company once they receive your items? A twenty-four hour guaranteed confirmation from the company stating that they received your old jewellery saves a lot of time and worry.

What if you are not satisfied with the amount that you received for your scrap gold? When choosing a company you should check to see if they have a return payment policy if you are not satisfied. When you sell your scrap gold you should be able to return the cheque and get your items sent back to you in a minimal amount of time. As a customer, it is great to have guaranteed satisfaction and reliability when selling your scrap gold.

Once you have found the ideal company that will buy your unwanted and broken jewellery for scrap gold, the fun begins. You not only make a profit from old items you no longer use but you might feel inspired to go out and find old jewellery or gold items in a few second hand shops that you know about.
