Diamond Wedding Bands: Most Significant things for her/his

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Diamonds are a girl’s best friends and diamond wedding bands are the perfect gift for her perfectly planned wedding. Every girl dreams of having the perfect wedding ever since she starts to think for herself. It is the beginning of a new life for her and is also one of the most significant days in her life. She meticulously plans the kind of dress she will be wearing, the color of flowers that would be used in decoration and the planning continues with time. However, the most significant thing for her which she continues to dream of is the wedding ring which she will be gifted with. So in order to impress your loved one, remember to indulge her with luxurious wedding bands that are artfully crafted with precious stones. By doing this, you can gift your partner a love that he/she deserves which would remain with them as a wonderful memory. Memories stay forever hence one should ensure that they gift the perfect memory by gifting the perfect wedding band.

With the wide range in bands available today, one can choose from precious metals like yellow gold, white gold, silver, platinum, two-colored bands, studded bands and many more. Platinum is known for its strength and resistance to tarnish. Due to its high reflective finish, a platinum band should be embedded with diamonds or other stones. A perfect way to pamper your loved one is by gifting him/her with diamond wedding bands which are a reflection of your true feelings.

Bands are more popular among men. Women choose bands that blend perfectly with their engagement rings while men generally prefer wider and heavier bands. Platinum, fancy bands and diamond bands are in vogue these days. Diamond jewelry is available in both, traditional and contemporary designs. The quality of diamonds is determined by its cut, clarity, color and carat. The more the carats, the more expensive the diamonds would be. A diamond solitaire on a left ring finger indicates that the lady is engaged and if worn on left hand right finger signifies that the person is married.

Each one of us should remember to purchase classy, sophisticated and uniquely designed wedding bands for someone so close to our soul.

What should you look for when buying a Wedding Band?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

There are four things you should look for while buying diamonds – carats, clarity, colour and cut. But have you given a thought to wedding bands? We agree that wedding bands are not going to be the costliest wedding purchase for you and that’s why you do not wish to spend a lot of time finding out more about the desired wedding band. But it is one item which you will be using on every day basis whereas other items such as engagement ring will not be used that often.

Ask yourself some questions while buying your wedding band:

1.What kind of wedding band you prefer- design wedding band, plain wedding band or traditional?

2.Do you prefer a branded wedding band or you would like to reduce costs by opting for the same design minus the brand name?

3.What kind of pricing of wedding band you are looking at?

Pricing

If you prefer a traditional wedding band it may cost you between $100 -$150. For a high quality designer wedding band you may have to spend between $300 – $425. For a branded wedding band the price will be in the range of $700 -$1200. You need to remember though, the idea of paying more for a branded wedding band will not appear very smart when you can buy the same item minus the brand name.

Two Tone, White gold or Yellow Gold

While selecting the metal type or colour of your wedding band you would like to consider a few points, though it still remains a personal choice. White gold is suitable for those who are not heavily into jewelry or those who would like to appear subtle. While gold also comes under the current trend though yellow gold has still not loss its popularity yet. Again, fashion becomes secondary because you should only choose what you will be comfortable wearing for a long time. Two tone wedding bands are another option worth looking at. These are an excellent mix of rich and subtle tones. Since you are getting the look of both white and yellow gold colours, you can match any other jewelries with your wedding band. On the other hand if you are buying while gold band, the future jewellery you are going to buy will force you to buy mostly white gold. The same logic applies to wearing yellow gold wedding bands. Two tones wedding bands, on the other hand, add versatility to your jewellery collection.

Branded wedding bands

All wedding bands available in the market are not designer name wedding bands but their quality is matching to the best. The difference between the two is the price (mostly). Branded wedding band costs between $700-$1200; whereas the generic versions cost between $300-$425.

Design bands

While choosing design bands, personal choice is something that matters a lot. Only practical consideration is that fashions are fleeting trends but you will be left with your wedding band for many years after your marriage. You would like to choose hammered design bands if you use hands a lot such as in construction work or other jobs very taxing for your hands.

History about Synthetic Diamonds

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Some of the real and original diamonds have a history that is not as well-known and clear, and they only add to the romance and mystique surrounding them. But this is not the case in synthetic diamonds. There is something so exciting about the synthetic diamonds. They have well-documented histories and we know where they came from, and who produced them and when.

The motivation to create man-made synthetic diamonds resulted from the desire of scientists and researchers to improve technology at a much lower cost than the expensive mined real diamonds. The synthetic diamonds are a cheaper and more readily available solution when compared to the real diamonds. They are a boon to both the world of gemstones and the world of technology.

Synthetic diamonds look like real diamonds but do not have all the same properties as real diamonds. It is extremely difficult to differentiate the characteristics such as chemical composition, hardness, weight, brilliance, luster and some of the light handling characteristics of real and synthetic diamonds with the naked eye. Synthetic diamonds have some properties such as durability similar to the real or mined diamonds.

In the past cut glass was probably the first material used to simulate a diamond. It is readily available, easy to cut and polish. The synthetic diamond made of cut glass looks good when seen from a distance, and is extremely low cost.

The use of cut glass has widely been replaced by the most popular diamond alternative, cubic zirconium. Cubic zirconium has been the most widely used material for synthetic diamonds since 1976. Its low cost, durability and light handling characteristics have made it extremely attractive in producing low cost jewelry. The light handling characteristics of synthetic diamond made of cubic zirconium is so close to that of a real diamond. The annual global production of cubic zirconium diamond reached 50 million carats by 1980. Cubic zirconium diamonds weigh about 1.7 times more that of real diamonds, and have the hardness rating of 8.5 to 9 which is bit less than the real diamond.

Henri Moissan is the first one to create a man-made diamond using moissanite or silicon carbide in a laboratory in 1892. Moissanite is a naturally occurring mineral that is a little softer than real diamonds but has almost all of the other properties of a mined real diamond. Charles and Colvard introduced gem-quality moissanite jewelry in 1998. Moissanite has almost the same thermal conductivity as a diamond. You need a highly specialized equipment to differentiate a moissanite diamond and a real diamond. JamesAllen.com states that synthetic moissanite diamonds made from silicon carbide gained widespread use beginning in 1999. These fakes are so good that standard thermal conduction testers used by jewelers cannot detect them. They also sell for nearly as much as the real thing. There is a key to identify a moissanite synthetic diamond – You can see double facets or a doubled table reflection, when you look this synthetic diamond through a 10x loupe. The synthetic moissanite diamonds have a greater density, weighing more than a comparable diamond.

The only way you can be sure to differentiate between a genuine diamond and a high quality synthetic diamond on the market is based on the citification and some simple and more conclusive tests.

The Australian Diamond Industry

Monday, October 19th, 2009

The Australian diamond industry is known across the globe for the famously stunning Argyle diamonds that are produced from within the mines of the country. These Argyle diamonds are sought after by jewellers and collectors alike for the unique array of colours and stunning perfection of these stones. Mined from the mountainous Kimberly regions of north-western Australia, these all-natural stones are found in amazing colours of exotic pink, deep amber, sparkling yellow, and the classic, dazzling white. These Argyle diamonds are sought after across the globe, and they are the reason the Australian diamond industry has become so successful over the past century. It is estimated that Australia produces more than one-third of the world’s total supply of diamonds every year! Annually, Australia’s production now totals over 35 million carats.

Diamond finds have been occurring in Australia since the 1890s. Although Argyle diamonds did not become widely available until the 1970s, Australia’s rich heritage of diamond production is a main reason for the priceless discovery of the Argyle mines. For many years, geologists searched and studied the terrain for the areas with the most promise of abundant diamond supplies. Throughout the 1970s, the geologists’ search seemed fruitless, until October 2, 1979 when the geologists found one of the largest, richest diamond deposits around the world. While working in a creek near the great Lake Argyle, the geologists came across a few stones in creek. The geologists continued to back-track up the creek, finding many more diamonds. They had found one of the richest diamond deposits in the world. They named their discovery after Lake Argyle, calling the find the Argyle Mine.

Construction of the mine began in 1983 when the Argyle Diamond Mines Joint Venture was created to finance, own, and operate the mine. The agreement was in full cooperation with the Australian government, and the development of the processing plant and open-cut mine was governed by a State Agreement.

Since its development, the Argyle diamond mine generates enough diamonds to boost Australia into becoming one of the world’s largest producers of natural diamonds. By sheer volume, the mine has been able to produce over 35 million carats annually since 1993, and before that, the mine produced upwards of 40 million carats annually. The Argyle Mine has truly placed Australia on the main stage of the diamond industry. The Argyle Mine is also the world’s only reliable supplier of the ultra-rare pink diamonds. One main reason that the mine is so successful is because it uses cutting-edge technology to mine the diamonds, making the mining processes economical and efficient.

Argyle diamonds are classified into three main categories. The diamonds are labelled by colour. Each diamond is identified as pink, champagne, or white. Pink and champagne are graded by intensity of colour, while white diamonds are graded for their lack of colour. Diamonds from the Argyle Mine have two unique features that distinguish them from other diamonds. For one, these stones are much harder than diamonds from other parts of the world. Also, the Argyle stones will fluoresce blue when placed under ultra-violet light.

The headquarters of Argyle Diamonds is located in the Western Australian capital of Perth. The large shipments of diamonds are sent here to the modern cutting and polishing factory. Argyle picks only the top quality stones to be polished at this facility. The process of sorting has been simplified over the years through technological advances in machines that sort the diamonds by size. Then, sophisticated equipment separates the diamonds according to colour and shape. Finally, the valuation of each stone still must be made by a human eye. Argyle employs many professional diamond sorters to individually examine each stone and make decisions based on size, shape, clarity, and colour.

Pink argyle diamonds are amongst the most rare gems in the world, so be the proud owner of one and dazzle your friends.
