Shopping For An Antique Diamond Engagement Ring

Friday, December 11th, 2009

When you are shopping for an antique diamond engagement ring, no matter what engagement ring setting you may be interested in, you really need to realize that the process is going to be different than it would be for any other type of engagement ring.

Remember, there are as many good reasons to consider purchasing an antique diamond engagement ring as there are reasons for deciding when to pop the question, and before you begin your search for the perfect antique diamond engagement ring, there are a few things that you are going to need to take into consideration.

The Four C’s

One thing that does remain the same when you are looking for antique diamond engagement rings is the “Four C’s” as they are referred to. This includes clarity, color, cut, and carat weight. You will need to take all of these into consideration when you are shopping for your engagement ring, and each of these holds their own importance.

Differences

Also when you are shopping for an antique diamond engagement ring, you need to be aware of the differences between antique rings and estate rings. It is really quite simple to tell the difference between these two types of rings, as antique rings normally refer to those that are over 50 years old, while rings that are less than 50 years old are called estate rings.

Budget

When you are shopping for an antique diamond engagement ring, chances are that you are going to end up paying much more than you would for a newer engagement ring, and you will definitely have to work out your budget beforehand, unless of course you are completely free in terms of how much money you are able to spend on the ring.

The best way to figure out your budget would be to take a look at a few different jewelers and get a better idea of what sorts of average prices are expected for the antique rings that you are interested in. This way you have a place to get started and can work forward from this.

This is not a process that should be rushed, no matter what specific type of engagement ring you are looking for, so make sure that you take your time and find that one perfect ring that your girlfriend is going to love. You can only propose to her once, and you want it to be the most special moment possible.

How expensive should an engagement ring be?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Many people will have many different opinions on this, so to answer your question, don’t be too hard on yourself. Your intent is there for your love, and the ring will be a symbol of it. You even said yourself that you want to put more money into buying a home, etc. and that is a great mature line of thought. If you and the future Mrs see eye to eye on things, the ring won’t be an issue. As a suggestion, you can go to retail stores which offer great discounts on beautiful settings; or you can look online for deals. No one has to know WHERE you bought it from; that’s only for you two to know. You may want to ask what style or settings she likes. I cant speak for women, but I find it great that a man will think of the future money spent on more important things to create a life together, rather than focus on a ring too much. Besides, you can always upgrade as soon as your first anniversary if extra earnings come your way.

Some women will tell you 1 &1/2 month to 3 months of YOUR salary. This is bull crap. Women who insist on this guideline just want a rock on their hand to show off to friends. Just remember, if you spend a tremendous amount of money on a ring, and the relationship does not work out, she does NOT have to give it back. An engagement ring should be what you are comfortable with, after all, it is the relationship that is important here, not what you could afford to buy.

I always find that “three months salary” rule of thumb to be a little extreme. When I was in the process of getting engaged I asked the same question. Someone told me that and I just about had a heart attack. Not to talk numbers but I make a very good living. Three months of salary is outrageous.

We did things a little out of the ordinary. I actually went with her to pick out her ring. That way we were both sure that she would love it. When the saleswoman asked what our budget was I said $2000. I personally think spending more than that is crazy. We actually ended up designing a ring from scratch. I find that doing this is actually cheaper. The jeweler will give you an assortment of bands to select from and then you will get to choose the exact diamonds that will go in your ring. We both had fun picking every single stone in her ring. I feel like its more personal that way. Surprisingly, they had a similar ring to the one that I designed but mine was about 1/2 ct. larger. Her ring was $700 LESS than the already designed ring.

Anyways, I would suggest spending what your fiance’ (and yourself if your doing it the way I did) is comfortable spending. Don’t believe the “three month salary” rule. Buy a ring that you love and is affordable. The last thing you’ll want to do is pawn it to pay rent! Another thing, the majority of the people I know had their engagement rings financed. Don’t allow your fiance’ to do that. Why should you start your married life in even more debt when you could simply save for a few weeks and buy it out right? Financing engagement rings is a bad idea in my opinion, but maybe that’s just me. It mainly depends on both of you.

In truth, when the situation is right, you will know to make this important decision based upon the person you plan on getting it for….and not the price. Not to say that money should not be a consideration (as it is to all of us I’m sure), but I have learned that jewelry’s true value is based on the “sentiment” and not the “superficial” aspects .

Earrings must fit to your budgets

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

The type of adornment you should look for should fit your budget. If you are buying a pair of earrings, you crapper acquire the very prizewinning that very pricey or region of the road material that’s pleasant or you crapper acquire low end that is actual cheap. But of times in the retail world they are every expensive. I think every a parcel has to be is pretty to you. All it has to do is bonny to the wearer or the owner. People hit different ideas of what’s beautiful. A flawless of pericarp is beautiful, but most people can’t verify it apart from a inferior quality stone. They can’t verify the difference. They look the same and so they shouldn’t acquire the pricey one. They should acquire the normal one, the region of the Jewelry Earrings. It is still meeting as bonny and you need to get the prizewinning value for your money.

Diamonds are so pricey cod to the cut. Some are cut good, some are cut magnificent, some are cut horrible. Then there is the color. Some are yellow, brown, light colored champagne color, and then some are extremely white. They are extremely clear white and extremely expensive. Then it goes downbound to the dark stones. The browns go downbound in color values and the value goes downbound that way.

Pink Diamonds are so pricey because they are rare. They meet don’t hit many of them around. It’s meeting extremely rare. The more of the thin they are, the more value they hit when they encounter it.

Clarity is the test detail. How such clog is inside? There are dead internally flawless diamonds. It has dead null inside. Then you hit diamonds that look like somebody shook pepper inside of it. And there is everything in between. Most of the time we delude SI (slightly included) or VS1 (very slightly included) stones. If you look really hard you crapper see the inclusion in there somewhere. It brings the price downbound a lowercase taste from the internally flawless. The flawed pericarp has a lowercase flaw and brings the price down. You don’t get an dead white stone; you bring it downbound so the white is still there. But it’s meet starting to exhibit color, get that great light there and that’s your prizewinning value and that will be a GH, SI1.

A GSI1 carat parcel could be $5000, but a D internally flawless digit carat parcel could be $60,000 with the same size stones looking at the same diamond. You hit digit right next to the other. You might be able to garner up that the other digit is a lowercase taste nicer though not much. Then you crapper hit another digit that’s downbound the bit from that. Thus feature as an I1, I2 and it’s an M stone, which is really yellow. You could acquire that for maybe $500, same size diamond. It weighs the same, so you go from $500 to $50-$60-$70,000 with the same sized stone. In millimeters and every the smaller stones, that are only a digit carat stones and every the other size stones hit that same variation. Often times we will hit a ring come in that has every brown diamonds in it. We hit to go encounter like the digit that is gone. We hit to go encounter a yellow or brown parcel meet so that it matches the rest of them and looks right in there. Yellow diamonds are fairly inexpensive.

Cheap Jewelry Stores Shopping Guide

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

When shopping at cheap jewelry stores most of us are investing so much energy into trying to figure out the store it self that we loose focus on the ornaments. Indeed these stores can be quite overwhelming. To begin with there are several counters ranging right from platinum, gold, sterling jewellery to even those studded with gems. Looking through these counters is in itself quite a task and mostly one ends up either buying nothing or just getting carried away with an item. However, a few pointers will help tremendously in faring much better at these jewellery shops.

The first thing to do when you visit discount jewelry stores is to ask for assistance. In case you are just looking around, let the sales person know. If you are looking for ornaments in a particular metal or stone, then this should also be conveyed. For those who are searching within a budget rather than going for a metal type, it will help to ask the sales person for assistance here too. Keep in mind that it is their job to help you and they know their way around the store much better.

Jewelry stores offer a rather large range of variety and some pretty unusual jewellery too. This usually makes it difficult to make a choice. It will help here to keep putting aside the pieces that you do like and then once you have seen the entire store, you can go back to the ones chosen earlier and narrow down your choice to one or two as the case maybe.

Irrespective of whether you are looking to buy sterling jewellery or the more expensive range of gold and platinum, do keep in mind that you must seek out a break up of the cost. Indeed finely crafted pieces charge more for their workmanship, while those that have not been given added attention may come at a lower cost. Do ask what you are being charged for the metal and what is the price that you are paying for the workmanship? Keep in mind that the metal cost is what you will be reimbursed in case you return the ornament, while the workmanship cost will be deleted completely.

Never make the mistake of shopping at cheap costume jewelry shops and not bothering to take a certificate of authentication. Many a time’s stores on sale will try and part with ornaments that are not too pure and charge the customer for the pure quality. Here it will help to seek a certificate from the seller that states clearly the quality of the metal that has been used and the quantity too.

The last tip is to go into these cheap fashion jewelry stores armed with a certain amount of knowledge. Learn about the various aspects of a diamond, understand why deeper stones are priced higher and of course be aware of the current rate for gold and silver. This will help you stay in control of the situation and thus make the right choice.
